The 2004 World Series of Poker
The World Series of Poker is held every year at Binions Horseshoe and Casino Resort in Las Vegas during May. The entry fee is $10,000 (US), however many have recently been choosing a more viable option of getting there. Online Poker Rooms, such as Party Poker offer satellite tournaments where players pay as little as $25 to enter and can win a seat into the Finals of the tournament.
You have likely heard the story about Chris Moneymaker, the 27-year-old accountant that won 2.5 million dollars at the 2003 World Series of Poker, beating out over 800 other participants (If not, read below). After witnessing this event, I'm sure a lot of us are thinking if he can do it, so can I.
By playing poker online against other players worldwide, Chris Moneymaker earned a spot in the World Series of Poker. Online poker is a great way to learn the rules and strategies of poker. Strategies such as how to bet, when to fold, how much to bet etc., can be learned at Online Poker Rooms. This can all be done in the comfort of your own home.
Some of these online poker rooms also offer tournaments, in which the winners earn entries into the World Series of Poker final tournament (normally a $10,000 buy-in.) This is how Chris Moneymaker made it to the 2003 World Series of Poker. He entered an online tournament with a $40 buy-in earning him a spot in the finals.
So how do you get started? As founders of this site, and from our vast experience of playing online poker as well, we can highly recommend Party Poker. We would recommend entering some of their tournaments, just to get a feel for the competition and the tournament format. Continue playing, learning, and perfecting your poker game and who knows you may be next year's winner of the World Series of Poker.
